[ Carolina Hurricanes ] The Whalers Wave

In 2023, Official League teamed up with the Carolina Hurricanes for the first time to create a hat for Whalers Night, the annual celebration of the franchise’s Hartford roots. The Whalers Wave sold out within its first week, and requests for its return never stopped. Now, one of our most requested designs is back in limited quantities.

A Wave Around the Crown

The Whalers name inspired the hat’s defining detail: a corduroy wave that travels around the entire crown. We developed the pattern panel by panel, adjusting each rise and fall so the wave connects cleanly across every seam. The result was the first 360° corduroy hat we ever made.

Materials and Details

Built from premium corduroy, the cap pairs an off-white crown with a navy blue wave and forest green flat brim. The classic Whalers crest is embroidered on the front, with green “Whalers” script on the back and a matching green top button. An adjustable brown leather strap with a metal clasp completes the design.

The Hurricanes and Whalers

The Hartford Whalers relocated to North Carolina in 1997 and became the Carolina Hurricanes, who now play in Raleigh as a member of the NHL. The Hurricanes continue to celebrate the franchise’s Hartford history through Whalers Night and the enduring green-and-blue Whalers identity.
