The Houston Buffaloes helped establish Houston as a baseball city well before the Colt .45s and Astros. Known as the Buffs, the club was closely connected with the development of organized farm systems and generations of Texas League baseball.
Dizzy Dean and Joe Medwick are among the future Hall of Famers who wore a Buffaloes uniform. Their names connect the club’s local following with the wider history of the game. The Buffs’ lasting place is in that foundation: the ballplayers, ballpark memories, and everyday supporters who came before Houston’s major league era.
