Carolina Hurricanes Celebrate Black Excellence With the Rose Cord Collaboration
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA – The Black Excellence Rose Cord Hat brings one of the Carolina Hurricanes’ most meaningful symbols into a new form. Crafted by Official League, this limited-edition cord centers on the Canes’ Black Excellence Rose, a design rooted in art, history, and the stories celebrated throughout Black History Month.
The center symbol of the hat is a reimagined Hurricanes emblem rendered as a multicolored rose, designed by North Carolina–born artist Mike Jones. Drawing inspiration from Tupac Shakur’sThe Rose That Grew from Concrete, the artwork symbolizes perseverance and the ability to thrive regardless of environment or circumstance. The rose first appeared on a new Hurricanes’ Black Excellence jersey in February of 2024, with proceeds of the jersey sales benefiting an organization within the Raleigh community.
The Black Excellence Rose is fully stitched into one of our most well-known hat silhouettes, The Cord. Crafted from 100% premium corduroy, The Cord is a silhouette rooted in classic headwear, drawing from the corduroy hats popularized in workwear and sport throughout the mid-to-late 20th century, now reintroduced as a modern staple through renewed cultural relevance. A red textured rope runs along the bill to each side stitched with the stick flag and wordmark of the Canes.
This release marks the second Carolina Hurricanes collaboration with Official League this year, continuing a shared focus on storytelling through new, limited-edition design. As the Black Excellence Rose returns once again, its influence continues to represent growth, perseverance, and the communities across the Carolinas supported by the Hurricanes.
